ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how a medication called GLP-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) can help improve liver health in people who have type 2 diabetes, obesity, and a liver condition known as metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Researchers want to understand how this treatment affects fat levels in the liver and the genes that are involved in these changes. The goal is to see if using GLP-1 RA can help reduce the fat buildup in the liver and improve overall metabolic health.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be between the ages of 65 and 74, have a confirmed diagnosis of MASLD, and also have diabetes or obesity. They should be currently taking GLP-1 RA at a stable dose. Unfortunately, people who cannot undergo a liver biopsy, have recently changed their diabetes or cholesterol medications, are on immunosuppressive therapy, have had a liver or kidney transplant, or are pregnant cannot join the study. Participants can expect to undergo tests to check their liver health and may contribute to important research that could lead to better treatments for these conditions.
