ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how using a special tool called a pelvic wand for perineal massage during late pregnancy and labor can help women feel more in control of their birthing experience. Perineal massage is meant to help reduce potential injuries during childbirth, like tearing, as well as lessen discomfort after giving birth. Although there have been some studies on this topic, there isn’t a lot of clear guidance on the best ways to do it, which is why this trial is important.
To participate in the study, women must be pregnant, at least 18 years old, and planning to give birth at BIDMC between 32 and 36 weeks of their pregnancy. They should also prefer to communicate in English. Unfortunately, women with certain medical conditions that prevent a vaginal birth or those with active infections would not be eligible. If you decide to join, you can expect to learn more about how this type of massage might impact your labor and delivery experience, and you’ll be contributing to important research that could help other women in the future.
