ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new, shorter assessment called the Practical Geriatric Assessment (PGA) for older adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who are about to start a specific type of radiation therapy known as stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). The PGA is designed to quickly evaluate important aspects of a patient's health, like their physical abilities, nutrition, and support systems, which can help doctors decide the best treatment plan and whether patients might need extra help, such as counseling or therapy. The trial aims to see if using the PGA increases the number of patients referred for these supportive services and to understand how easy or difficult patients find the assessment.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be at least 65 years old and have a confirmed diagnosis of stage I or II non-small cell lung cancer. They also need to be scheduled to receive SBRT and should be able to read the questions in English or have help from an interpreter. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but if you qualify, you can expect to complete the PGA, which should take about 10-15 minutes. The findings from this study could help improve care for older adults with cancer by making it easier to identify those who need additional support.
