ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how simple tests for frailty and muscle strength can help predict which older adults, aged 65 and older, may face complications after major abdominal surgery. The researchers want to find out if these tests, done before surgery, can give doctors useful information about a patient’s risk of facing health problems following their operation.

To participate, individuals need to be 65 years or older and scheduled for planned major abdominal surgery, like procedures related to the colon, liver, or reproductive organs. During a regular pre-surgery visit, participants will complete quick assessments that check their muscle strength, breathing ability, nutrition, and memory. After the surgery, researchers will look at their medical records to see if any complications arise within 30 and 90 days. It’s important to note that those with emergency surgeries, significant mobility issues, or major cognitive challenges will not be eligible to join the study.
