ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how kinesiology taping, along with swallowing exercises, can help improve swallowing in patients who have had a stroke and are experiencing difficulty swallowing, known as dysphagia. The study will involve 36 participants who will be divided into two groups: one will receive real kinesiology taping, while the other will receive a placebo (fake) taping, both combined with standard swallowing exercises for six weeks. Researchers will assess how well participants can swallow and measure changes in certain muscles involved in swallowing using ultrasound.
To be eligible for this trial, participants need to be between 50 and 80 years old, have been diagnosed with a stroke, and have a good level of mental function as indicated by a specific test. They must also be willing to participate and provide written consent. However, people with skin issues on their neck, allergies to the tape, or certain medical conditions affecting swallowing will not be included. This study aims to find effective ways to help stroke survivors swallow more safely and comfortably, contributing to their overall recovery.
