ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how special nutritional care before and after knee and hip replacement surgeries can help patients recover better. Researchers at St. Anne's University Hospital in Brno will study patients who are having elective surgeries for total hip or knee replacements. They want to see if providing patients with education about nutrition, checking their nutritional needs, and ensuring they have a carbohydrate-rich drink before surgery can improve their recovery. This includes looking at how well patients heal and whether they experience any complications, like infections or slow healing of wounds.
To participate in this study, patients should be between the ages of 65 and 74 and must be scheduled for elective total hip or knee replacement surgeries. Unfortunately, those with hip fractures or certain medical conditions, like diabetes requiring insulin, cannot take part. The good news is that this nutritional care is already part of standard practice, so participants won't have to undergo any extra procedures. The results from this trial could provide important insights into how better nutrition can lead to safer surgeries and quicker recoveries for patients.
