ClinConnect Summary
The Brain&Senses Study is a research project designed to understand how problems with senses like smell, hearing, and balance affect thinking abilities and overall quality of life in older adults. Specifically, it looks at individuals aged 60 to 85 who are generally in good health and do not have serious psychiatric disorders. Over the course of five years, participants will undergo evaluations by specialists, including neurologists and hearing doctors, who will perform tests related to their senses. This study aims to discover if losing one sense, like smell or hearing, impacts brain functions and emotional well-being more than others.
To be eligible, participants should be between 60 and 85 years old, in good health, and able to commit to the five-year follow-up. However, individuals with certain medical conditions, like serious nasal or ear problems, recent strokes, or significant head injuries, won't be able to participate. If you join the study, you can expect to undergo various sensory tests and contribute to valuable research that could improve understanding of how sensory issues affect cognitive health in older adults.
