ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how the position of a patient—lying on their side (left lateral position) versus lying on their back (supine position)—affects the measurement of portal pressure gradient (PPG) using a special ultrasound called endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). The goal is to see if the measurements taken in these two different positions are consistent. This is important because accurate PPG measurements can help doctors assess the severity of conditions like esophageal and gastric varices, which are swollen veins that can bleed.

To participate in this trial, patients must be hospitalized for treatment of gastroesophageal varices and be willing to sign a consent form for the procedure. However, certain individuals cannot participate, including those who are unwilling to consent, have specific blood conditions, are pregnant, or are outside the age range of 18 to 80 years old. Participants can expect to undergo the EUS procedure in both lying positions and contribute to important research that may improve future treatments for variceal issues.
