ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how to improve the way doctors prescribe proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which are medications often used to treat stomach issues like heartburn. Researchers at UCLA Health have noticed that the standard prescription length for these medications is longer than what is usually recommended. Currently, doctors can prescribe them for 90 days with three refills, but most guidelines suggest only 60 days is necessary. The goal of this study is to see if changing the default prescription lengths in the electronic health record system can help doctors make better prescribing decisions while still allowing them to choose what’s best for their patients.
To participate in this trial, doctors must work full-time at UCLA Health and spend at least 25% of their time providing patient care. Throughout the study, participants will have the opportunity to test out these changes in their regular practice, helping to ensure that patients receive the right amount of medication without unnecessary overprescribing. This initiative aims to improve patient care by aligning prescriptions more closely with established medical guidelines.
