ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of two medications, pregabalin and gabapentin, on reducing anxiety and increasing sedation in older patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. The goal is to see which medication works better for easing anxiety before surgery and improving comfort during the procedure. The trial will include patients who are 65 years or older, scheduled for elective surgery that requires regional anesthesia, and who are in good health according to specific medical criteria.
Potential participants should be aware that the study will not include individuals with certain health issues, such as allergies to these medications, a history of chronic pain, neurological disorders, or severe cardiovascular and respiratory conditions. If you are eligible and choose to participate, you will receive either pregabalin or gabapentin about an hour before your surgery, and then the effects on your anxiety and sedation will be monitored. This research aims to provide more information on how these medications can help older adults feel more relaxed before and during surgery.
