ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how longer fasting times before an upper endoscopy (a procedure to look inside the stomach) might help reduce the risk of aspiration in patients taking a specific type of medication called GLP1 receptor agonists. Aspiration happens when food or liquid enters the lungs, which can be dangerous. The researchers want to see if changing how long patients fast before the procedure can make a difference in safety.
To participate, you need to be between the ages of 65 and 74 and scheduled for an elective upper endoscopy with a gastroenterologist. However, if you have certain conditions like gastroparesis (a problem with stomach emptying), achalasia (a swallowing disorder), or if you're having an urgent procedure, you won't be eligible. If you join the study, you will follow the modified fasting plan and then undergo the upper endoscopy, helping researchers gather important information to improve patient safety in the future.
