ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on improving the safety of a medication called digoxin, which is often prescribed to older adults for heart-related issues. The study aims to introduce computerized alerts that will notify doctors whenever they try to prescribe a dose of digoxin that is higher than the recommended amount of 0.125 mg per day. By doing this, the researchers hope to reduce the number of elderly patients who receive inappropriate doses, which can lead to serious side effects or even overdose.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be 64 years old or older and currently hospitalized in one of the study centers. Unfortunately, those under 64 or without complete medical information cannot take part. If eligible, participants can expect their doctors to be alerted automatically if they are prescribed a higher dose of digoxin, potentially making their treatment safer. This trial is not yet recruiting patients, but it is an important step toward protecting the health of older adults who need this medication.
