ClinConnect Summary
The SCALE ASPIRE trial is studying a program called S.A.F.E. Firearm, which aims to help prevent suicide by encouraging safe firearm storage. This trial will expand the program into adult primary care and women's health services in two health systems located in Michigan and Colorado. The S.A.F.E. Firearm program involves a simple conversation between healthcare staff and patients about how to securely store firearms, along with offering patients a free firearm cable lock. Researchers want to find out how effective this program is at changing how patients store their firearms safely and how well healthcare staff can implement the program in their practice.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be at least 18 years old and have a medical appointment at a participating clinic in the Henry Ford Health or Kaiser Permanente Colorado systems. Both patients and healthcare staff may be invited to share their experiences through surveys or interviews. This feedback will help the researchers understand the program's impact better. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to make a difference in suicide prevention by promoting firearm safety.
