ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two different types of exercises to see which one helps improve muscle strength, mass, and overall quality of life in older adults with a condition called sarcopenia, which means they have lost muscle due to aging. The two methods being compared are neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), which uses gentle electrical signals to stimulate muscles, and low-load resistance training with blood flow restriction (BFR), a technique that involves exercising with lighter weights while restricting blood flow to the muscles.
To be eligible for this trial, participants need to be between 60 and 75 years old and have low muscle strength or mass. However, individuals with certain health conditions, such as heart disease, kidney disease, autoimmune disorders, cognitive issues, or severe sarcopenia, cannot participate. Those who join the study can expect to engage in either of the two exercise methods and will be monitored to see how well they improve their muscle function and daily activities. This research could help find better ways to support older adults in maintaining their strength and quality of life.
