ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating whether simple bed exercises can help reduce a common condition called postoperative ileus in patients who have just undergone colorectal surgery. Postoperative ileus is when the intestines temporarily stop working properly after surgery, which can lead to discomfort and delayed recovery. The study will enroll adult patients (18 years and older) who are scheduled for elective colorectal surgery, like bowel resections or stoma placements. To participate, patients must be able to give informed consent and be mentally alert.
Participants in the study will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group will learn and practice simple bed exercises for 15 minutes, three times a day, starting the day after their surgery. These exercises will be taught by nurses using a video guide. The other group will receive standard care without added exercises. Throughout the study, all participants will keep track of when they are able to pass gas or have a bowel movement, as well as their ability to eat. This research could help improve recovery for patients after colorectal surgery, making it easier for them to get back to their normal routines.
