ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring whether magnesium L-threonate, a special form of magnesium, can improve sleep quality, recovery, and athletic performance in college athletes. Magnesium is important for helping muscles recover and promoting good sleep, but many types of magnesium struggle to enter the brain. Magnesium L-threonate is unique because it can cross into the brain, which might enhance deep sleep, heart rate variability, and overall recovery.
Healthy UCLA varsity athletes aged 18 to 35 may be eligible to participate. To take part, they must be actively training or competing in their sport and willing to wear a WHOOP strap to track their sleep and recovery for four weeks. Participants will either take magnesium L-threonate or a placebo (a non-active pill) each night during this time. At the beginning and end of the study, they will complete tests to measure their athletic performance, including jump height and grip strength. This study aims to find out if this magnesium supplement can help athletes recover better and improve their training, while also using wearable technology to monitor their progress.
