ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying the use of a treatment called veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) in patients who need emergency thoracic surgery, which involves operations on the chest area, like the lungs. VV-ECMO is a technique that helps support patients with severe breathing problems by taking over the work of the lungs temporarily. The researchers want to understand how well this treatment works and what factors might affect the outcomes for patients undergoing these high-risk surgeries. They will compare patients who receive VV-ECMO during or after their surgery to those who received it for other breathing issues.

To participate in the study, individuals must be adults aged 18 and older who are undergoing emergency thoracic surgery and require VV-ECMO. However, pregnant women and those on a different type of ECMO (veno-arterial) will not be included. The trial will take place at two hospitals in France, and while it is not yet open for recruitment, it aims to gather important information about how this treatment can improve outcomes for patients facing serious respiratory challenges during surgery. Participants can expect their medical data to be used in this study, which will help doctors better understand the best ways to support patients in similar situations in the future.
