ClinConnect Summary
The OPPOSED study is researching how to manage pain after total hip replacement surgery, specifically using a newer surgical technique called the direct anterior approach. This method is becoming popular because it causes less damage to hip muscles, potentially leading to a quicker recovery. However, patients often experience significant pain in the first hours after surgery, which can affect their recovery and mobility. The study aims to compare two different methods of regional anesthesia, which is a way to block pain by using local anesthetics, to see which one helps reduce pain more effectively after surgery.
To participate in this trial, you need to be between 18 and 85 years old and undergoing an elective hip replacement with the direct anterior approach. You'll be asked to understand the study's purpose and give your consent to participate. As a participant, you can expect to receive one of the two pain management techniques and be monitored for pain levels, recovery of movement, and any complications after your surgery. This study is important because it could help improve pain management and recovery for future hip replacement patients.
