ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how a medication called doxapram affects the movement of the diaphragm in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) who are on mechanical ventilation and are trying to breathe on their own again. The diaphragm is a key muscle that helps us breathe, and the researchers want to see if doxapram can help improve its movement during a specific test known as a spontaneous breathing trial.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must have moderate to severe COPD and be undergoing this breathing trial. Unfortunately, those who refuse to take doxapram, have allergies to it, or have certain muscle disorders that affect their ability to breathe will not be able to join. While the trial is not yet recruiting participants, those who do take part can expect to be closely monitored as researchers assess how well their diaphragm is functioning with the help of this medication.
