ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how weight loss affects the way our bodies use energy, particularly focusing on the efficiency of our muscles at using oxygen after losing weight. When people lose weight, their bodies can become more efficient at using energy, which might make it harder to continue losing weight. The researchers want to learn more about this process by looking at individuals with obesity who have chosen to undergo bariatric surgery, a type of weight loss surgery. They will measure how much energy these participants use and how well their muscle cells work before and after they lose weight.

To be eligible for this study, participants must have a body mass index (BMI) over 30 and have decided to have bariatric surgery. However, there are some exclusions: individuals who weigh more than 350 pounds, have certain health conditions like type 2 diabetes or heart disease, or are pregnant cannot take part in this trial. While the study is not yet recruiting participants, those who join will undergo assessments to help scientists understand how weight loss affects energy use in our muscles. This research aims to uncover why some people find it easier or harder to lose weight after surgery.
