ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called the VALVE-AI Trial, is studying whether a special computer program using artificial intelligence (AI) can help find moderate to severe heart valve problems in adults. Heart valves control blood flow through the heart, and when they don’t work well, it can cause serious health issues. The AI program looks at a common heart test called an electrocardiogram (ECG) to see if it can spot people who might have these valve problems early on. The study will compare two groups: one where the AI helps decide if a detailed heart ultrasound (called an echocardiogram) is needed, and another group receiving usual care without AI-based screening.
Adults between 60 and 85 years old who have had a standard ECG test within the past year may be eligible, as long as they don’t already have known valve problems, recent heart valve surgery, or a recent detailed heart ultrasound. If chosen for the trial, participants will be sorted into high- or low-risk groups based on the AI’s reading of their ECG. Those at high risk in the AI group will get an echocardiogram to check their heart valves, while those in the usual care group will be managed as normal without this extra screening. This study aims to see if using AI can help doctors catch serious valve issues earlier, potentially leading to better care and outcomes.
