ClinConnect Summary
The BIO-MAX study is a research project that aims to learn more about conditions affecting the mouth and face by collecting biological samples that are usually thrown away during dental check-ups or surgeries. These samples include saliva, blood, and small pieces of tissue. One main focus is on a substance in saliva called irisin, which may be linked to diseases like diabetes and heart problems. By studying how irisin levels change with age, gender, lifestyle, and oral health, researchers hope to develop better ways to diagnose and treat these conditions. The study will also look at other tissue samples to discover new markers of disease and test potential future treatments.
If you are 18 years or older and are having a routine dental exam or planned oral or facial surgery at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio, you might be able to take part. Participants will be asked to provide samples that would normally be discarded during their visit, so no extra procedures are needed. The study is currently recruiting people of all genders. It’s important to note that individuals under 18, those unable to give consent, people with certain viral infections, or pregnant or breastfeeding women cannot join. Overall, this study hopes to improve care and develop new treatments for oral and facial health issues by using these valuable biological samples.
