ClinConnect Summary
This study is looking at how to help new nurses improve their communication skills when caring for elderly patients. It compares two ways of learning: one group will take part in a blended or “hybrid” course that combines different teaching methods, while the other group will use traditional written materials. Both groups will attend a one-hour educational session. The goal is to see which method helps nurses understand aging better, feel more positive about working with older adults, and communicate more effectively with them. Nurses’ skills will be tested before and after the training, and again three months later to see what they remember. Some nurses will also share their thoughts about the training in interviews to help improve the program.
To join the study, nurses need to be at least 20 years old, have recently graduated from nursing school, be working full-time in a hospital medical ward, and have less than six months of nursing experience. Nurses who don’t work directly with patients, like those in supply rooms or research roles, can’t participate. If eligible, participants can expect to complete short tests and take part in training sessions focused on communicating with older patients. This study aims to find better ways to prepare new nurses to provide compassionate and effective care to the elderly.
