ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at whether listening to music can help reduce fear and pain during a test called needle electromyography (EMG). Needle EMG is a procedure used to check how well your muscles and nerves are working, but it can sometimes cause discomfort or anxiety because it involves inserting a small needle into the muscle. The study will compare two groups of people having this test—one group will listen to music during the procedure, and the other will not—to see if music helps make the experience less stressful and painful.
People who might take part are adults between 18 and 70 years old who have been referred for this muscle and nerve test because of a condition called lumbosacral radiculopathy, which affects the lower back and legs. Participants need to be able to understand and cooperate with the study. However, people with hearing problems, certain medical conditions, or those taking specific medications that affect pain won’t be able to join. If you take part, you will undergo the usual needle EMG test, and depending on the group, you might listen to music during the test. The goal is to find out if music can help make this common but sometimes uncomfortable test easier and less scary for patients.
