ClinConnect Summary

This study is comparing two non-drug ways to treat bruxism (involuntary teeth grinding) in young adults. It will enroll 30 university students aged 18–27 who show signs of bruxism (such as unusual tooth wear or tense jaw muscles). Participants will be randomly assigned to either Manual Therapy, which is 10 sessions of face-and-neck massage, or Conventional Therapy, a standard physiotherapy plan that includes infrared heat, ultrasound to the jaw muscles, and TENS (a gentle electrical stimulation). The researchers will try to keep the person doing the outcome measurements unaware of which treatment a participant received.

Over 10 days, researchers will look at changes in pain (rated on a 0–10 scale), how well the jaw and neck move, and also some mood and sleep questions, plus a bruxism questionnaire. An assessor who doesn’t know the treatment group will carry out the measurements. Key eligibility includes being 18–27 years old, having signs of bruxism, and not having certain conditions: no neurological disease, no Botox injections in jaw muscles in the last year, not taking antidepressants that affect the brain, and not using an occlusal splint (bite guard). The study is happening at Bartın University in Turkey and is currently enrolling by invitation, with completion expected around September 2025.
