ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether a special balance-training device called the GeaMaster can help adults with peripheral neuropathy improve their balance and walking. Peripheral neuropathy affects the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord, causing symptoms like numbness, muscle weakness, and problems with balance that can lead to falls. Since there are limited drug treatments, physical therapy is often used to help manage these symptoms. This study will compare traditional physical therapy alone to therapy combined with the GeaMaster, which is a robotic platform that gently moves to challenge and train balance while providing real-time feedback. Researchers will also look at brain and muscle activity during movement to see if these measurements can help track recovery.
Adults between 18 and 80 years old who have a stable diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy and are already receiving similar treatments might be eligible to participate. During the study, participants will be randomly assigned to receive either regular therapy or therapy using the GeaMaster for four weeks. They will visit the clinic three times—for tests before, right after, and one month after completing treatment—to check their balance and walking ability. Tests will include simple activities like walking and standing, and special equipment will measure their stability and brain activity. Healthy volunteers without neuropathy will also be involved to help compare results. This trial aims to find out if the GeaMaster can provide better rehabilitation results and reliable data to support future treatment plans.
