ClinConnect Summary

This study is watching how doctors diagnose Wire Syndrome, a condition where teeth can move abnormally even when a fixed retainer (a wire that stays in place after braces) is in use. Researchers want to create a clear way to classify how severe Wire Syndrome is so it can be found early and avoid mistakes in diagnosis and treatment. The work is being done at CHU Nice in Nice, France, and it plans to enroll about 40 adults who have finished braces and are still wearing a fixed retainer. People eligible are adults (18 and older) who have had orthodontic treatment with a fixed retainer, have complete dental records, are otherwise healthy, and can understand French. Exclusions include people with other types of retainers and anyone who cannot understand French. Enrollment is by invitation.

There is no treatment being tested in this study. Researchers will review existing records and photographs to decide if Wire Syndrome is present and, if so, how severe it is (mild, moderate, or severe). They will also look at how well different diagnostic criteria agree with each other. Because this is an observational study using retrospective data, participants won’t undergo new procedures for the study. The study started in March 2025 and is expected to finish around July 31, 2025, but results aren’t available yet. The goal is to develop a shared, simple framework for orthodontists and dentists to work together, improve early detection, and guide personalized care.
