ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how certain genes may affect the development and progression of myopia, which is also called nearsightedness. Researchers want to understand which genetic factors increase the risk of developing myopia and how quickly it worsens, such as changes in the length of the eye. The study will also look at how these genes interact with different treatments, like low-dose eye drops, special contact lenses worn overnight, glasses designed for myopia control, and spending more time outdoors. The goal is to create a genetic risk score that can help doctors personalize prevention and treatment plans for each child.
Children and teenagers between the ages of 6 and 18 with any level of nearsightedness may be eligible to join, as long as their parents agree to genetic testing. However, children with certain genetic syndromes, other eye diseases, or who have had eye surgery are not eligible. Participants will have their eyes examined and provide a small sample for genetic testing. They may also receive different treatments to see how these work with their genetic makeup. This study is currently recruiting, so families interested in helping advance myopia care might consider participating.
