ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether using multimedia tools—like videos or interactive materials—to teach patients about cataract surgery can help reduce their anxiety before the operation and improve their understanding of how to take care of themselves afterward. Patients scheduled for their first cataract surgery will be split into two groups: one will receive the usual pre-surgery education, and the other will get the multimedia-based education. The researchers will measure how anxious patients feel before surgery and how much they know about self-care after the procedure.
To join the study, patients need to be at least 18 years old, diagnosed with cataracts, and scheduled for a specific type of cataract surgery (called phacoemulsification with lens implantation). They must be able to communicate in Mandarin or Taiwanese and meet certain health criteria, especially if they have diabetes. People with dementia, previous cataract surgery, severe hearing loss, very high blood pressure on surgery day, very poor vision before surgery, or who are having additional eye procedures won’t be eligible. Participants will be asked to use digital devices for the multimedia education, so they need to be comfortable with those. This study hopes to make cataract surgery education better and less stressful for future patients.
