ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether having a meeting with the anesthesiologist before surgery—called a pre-anesthetic evaluation—can help reduce anxiety in patients undergoing orthopedic (bone or joint) surgeries. Anxiety before surgery is common and can cause problems like high blood pressure or irregular heartbeats, which may affect recovery. The study aims to see if this evaluation not only lowers anxiety but also improves overall surgical outcomes, such as less pain, fewer cancellations, and better use of hospital resources.
People who may join the study are adults between 18 and 65 years old who are scheduled for planned or urgent orthopedic surgery and are generally healthy enough for surgery (based on specific health classifications). Those who have serious mental health issues, cognitive difficulties, or emergency surgeries cannot participate. If chosen, participants will meet with the anesthesiologist before their surgery to discuss their health and feelings, which may include answering simple questions about their anxiety. This process helps prepare the patient better for surgery and may lead to a smoother experience and recovery. The study will take place at a hospital in Brasília, Brazil, and is not recruiting participants yet.
