ClinConnect Summary
This study is looking at a new tool called the Rectal Expulsion Device (RED), which helps doctors check for constipation during a regular office visit. The device is already approved by the FDA and can be used right at the bedside to better understand a patient’s constipation symptoms. Before their appointment, participants will be asked to complete a short survey about their health, but there won’t be any extra visits or tests required just for this study.
People who have chronic constipation as their main problem and are able to take part in pelvic floor physical therapy (a type of exercise to help with bowel movements) may be eligible. However, those who have recently taken strong pain medicines, have had certain bowel tests before, have already seen a pelvic floor therapist, or are pregnant cannot join. The study is not yet open for participants but aims to make it easier and quicker to evaluate constipation during normal doctor visits.
