ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how obesity affects balance and the inner ear’s role in controlling it, known as the vestibular system. Researchers want to find out if losing weight through bariatric surgery (a type of weight-loss surgery) can improve balance and vestibular function in people with obesity. They will test participants before surgery, then again one month and six months after surgery to see if there are any improvements as weight decreases.

People eligible for this study are adults between 18 and 60 years old who speak Turkish, have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher (which indicates obesity), and are preparing for bariatric surgery. Participants should not have any existing balance, joint, muscle, or walking problems. During the study, they will undergo several simple balance and movement tests, as well as answer questions about their quality of life and confidence in their balance. This study aims to better understand how weight loss might help improve balance and overall well-being in people with obesity.
