ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a way to predict drops in blood pressure that can happen during hemodialysis, a treatment for people with severe kidney failure (called end-stage renal disease). The researchers want to see if a simple ultrasound test of blood flow in the neck artery (called the carotid artery) can help identify patients who might experience low blood pressure during dialysis. Low blood pressure during dialysis can cause dizziness, weakness, or other problems, so finding a way to predict it could help doctors keep patients safer.
Adults between 18 and 80 years old who have been on regular hemodialysis for at least three months may be able to join this study. People with certain heart problems or severe narrowing of the neck arteries won’t be included. If you join, you’ll have an ultrasound test about an hour after your dialysis starts, and your blood pressure will be closely monitored throughout the session. The goal is to find a quick, non-invasive method to better predict and manage blood pressure drops during dialysis, improving care and comfort for patients like you.

Eligibility criteria
- Inclusion Criteria:
- • Adults aged 18 to 80 years. Diagnosed with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Undergoing maintenance hemodialysis for more than three months. Willing and able to provide informed consent and comply with study procedures.
- Exclusion Criteria:
- • Patients with significant carotid artery stenosis due to heavy atherosclerotic plaque (defined as more than 70% stenosis confirmed by ultrasound or angiography).
- • Hemodynamically unstable patients or those requiring vasopressor support. Patients with significant arrhythmias (e.g., atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia).
- • Dialysis sessions terminated for reasons unrelated to hypotension (e.g., technical issues, patient request).
- • Use of antihypertensive medications during dialysis sessions. Inability to undergo ultrasound assessment due to factors such as severe obesity or wounds obstructing access.
- • Patients who withdraw informed consent during the study.
