ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether exposure to green light at different times of the day can help reduce pain around the time of surgery. Specifically, it looks at patients who need surgery and will have blood vessels punctured as part of their care. Participants will be randomly assigned to spend time exposed to green light or regular transparent light during one of three time periods: morning, midday, or late afternoon. The researchers want to see if green light can ease acute pain experienced during and shortly after surgery.
To take part, you would need to be between 18 and 50 years old, classified as generally healthy to moderately ill (based on a standard health assessment called ASA I-III), and scheduled for abdominal surgery under general anesthesia that involves arterial puncture (a small needle puncture in an artery). People with certain skin conditions, color blindness, serious heart or lung problems, or who use long-term pain or psychiatric medications would not be eligible. If you join, you will give informed consent and be randomly assigned to one of the light exposure groups. The study is not yet recruiting, but if you participate, you can expect to spend time exposed to green or transparent light at a specific time before or during the surgical process to see how it affects your pain levels.
