ClinConnect Summary

This study is looking at a protein called S100B in the blood to help doctors better understand and manage head injuries. When someone comes to the emergency room after hitting their head, measuring the level of S100B can help predict whether there is a brain injury or not. Because this test is very accurate, it might help doctors decide who can safely go home without needing extra imaging tests like CT scans, which can save time and reduce unnecessary procedures.

People of all ages, including babies, adults, pregnant, and breastfeeding women, who come to the emergency room within 6 hours of a head injury may be eligible to join the study. Even patients who were briefly unconscious but wake up within 6 hours can participate. If you join, your care will be just like usual, but you will have a small blood test to check the S100B protein levels. This blood test is the only extra procedure compared to regular treatment. The study is not yet recruiting, but if you or a family member has a recent head injury, this research might offer a helpful new way to manage care safely and quickly.
