Facet Joint Injection Spine Ultrasound 3 D Ultrasound Low Back Pain

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying a new way to help guide injections for people with lower back pain caused by arthritis in the spine’s facet joints. Normally, doctors use a special type of X-ray called fluoroscopy to see where to place needles for these injections, but this method can be costly, exposes patients and staff to radiation, and isn’t always available in all areas. This study is testing a new technology called Bone Enhanced Ultrasound (BEUS), which uses advanced computer software (artificial intelligence) to create detailed 3D images of the spine without radiation. The goal is to make spinal injections safer, more affordable, and easier to access, especially in places where fluoroscopy isn’t available.

Adults between 65 and 74 years old who have had a CT or MRI scan of their spine in the last five years and are dealing with chronic low back pain may be eligible to participate. Participants will have ultrasound scans of their spine taken, which will help improve the AI software by teaching it to better recognize spinal anatomy in adults with back pain. This will help the technology provide more accurate 3D images in the future. Being part of the study involves undergoing these ultrasound scans and sharing existing imaging results, but it does not include any treatments or injections. This research could lead to better, safer options for managing back pain down the line.
