ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether two tests—a special kidney ultrasound and a measurement of oxygen levels in the urine—can help predict if a person will develop sudden kidney problems after open heart surgery. Acute kidney injury, or a sudden drop in kidney function, can happen after this type of surgery, and the researchers want to find better ways to identify who is at risk before it happens.
If you are over 21 years old and scheduled for planned heart surgery using a heart-lung machine, you might be eligible to join. However, people with existing long-term kidney disease, kidney abnormalities, or those already on dialysis are not eligible. Participants will have kidney ultrasounds and urine tests before and after surgery to see if these tests can help doctors predict kidney issues early. This study is currently looking for volunteers and aims to improve care for patients undergoing heart surgery by catching kidney problems sooner.
