ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether teaching pregnant women with obesity, high blood pressure, or diabetes about the Mediterranean Diet—a way of eating rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats—can help improve their heart health and blood sugar control after giving birth. The researchers want to see if following this diet can support the heart’s recovery, help women return to a healthy weight before pregnancy, and even affect the bacteria in their gut. They are also interested in how this diet might influence breastfeeding and when babies start eating solid foods.
Women who are 18 or older and have obesity, high blood pressure (either before or during pregnancy), or type 2 or gestational diabetes may be eligible to join. Participants will attend one in-person educational session that includes a helpful, easy-to-read guide about the Mediterranean Diet, followed by monthly emails with more information for five months. The study team will check on participants at one, six, and twelve months after giving birth to see how well the diet education worked. This study aims to create an effective tool that can help improve the health of mothers during and after pregnancy.
