ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is testing a new way to help manage challenging behaviors and emotional symptoms often seen in people with dementia living in care homes. The study is looking at whether a special training program called the SUNAM Protocol, which helps caregivers better understand and meet the unmet needs of residents with dementia, can reduce these symptoms. All caregivers involved will receive basic training about dementia-related behaviors and a virtual reality experience to practice handling them. The group using the SUNAM Protocol will get extra training focused on using this specific approach to improve care.
People who have been diagnosed with dementia and are living in long-term care facilities may be eligible to participate, as long as they do not have schizophrenia and their legal representative agrees to join the study. For participants, this means their caregivers will receive additional training aimed at improving how they assess and manage difficult behaviors by addressing the person's unmet needs. The goal is to make life better for residents with dementia by reducing distressing symptoms through more personalized care. The study has not started recruiting yet and is open to all genders.
