ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying different ways to give fluids by mouth before lung cancer surgery to see which method is safer and more comfortable for elderly patients. Specifically, the study compares a new approach—where patients drink small amounts of clear fluids or drinks with carbohydrates every hour until surgery—with the usual approach of drinking a larger amount of water two hours before surgery. The researchers want to find out which method helps reduce risks like stomach problems and breathing issues during surgery, lowers feelings of hunger, thirst, and anxiety, and improves recovery after surgery, including reducing confusion (called postoperative delirium) that some patients may experience.
The study is for patients aged 65 and older who are scheduled for thoracoscopic lung cancer surgery and are generally in good health without serious heart, liver, or kidney problems. Participants need to have normal thinking abilities and be able to agree to take part. People with certain health conditions like diabetes, digestive problems, or previous cancer treatments won’t be eligible. If you take part, you’ll follow one of the two fluid-drinking plans before your surgery, and the medical team will monitor your stomach, comfort, and recovery closely. This research aims to find the best way to prepare elderly lung cancer patients for surgery to help them feel better and recover more safely.
