ClinConnect Summary
This is a randomized, double-blind study at University Hospital Bonn that is testing whether adding blood flow restriction (BFR) training to outpatient rehabilitation after total hip replacement helps you regain leg strength and feel less pain. About 30 adults will be randomly assigned to either a control group (regular rehab with a sham, non-active BFR) or an experimental group (rehab with real BFR). Each session lasts about 25 minutes, five times a week, for roughly three weeks. The main things they will measure are leg muscle strength and pain levels from the start to after the three weeks.
Who can join and what to expect: Eligible adults are 18 or older who recently had hip replacement surgery (within the last four weeks) and can participate in rehab. Exclusions include conditions like sickle cell anemia, certain blood vessel problems in the leg, or open wounds or infections in the leg. The study is currently enrolling by invitation in Bonn, Germany, and results aren’t available yet (they’re expected in 2026). If you participate, you’d be randomly assigned to one of the two groups and undergo the rehab sessions as described, with researchers keeping group assignment hidden to avoid bias.
