ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying blood clots (called thrombi) removed from patients who have had a type of stroke known as an acute ischemic stroke. Specifically, it looks at the characteristics of these clots to better understand what caused the stroke and to help predict the chances of having another stroke or other blood vessel problems in the future. Researchers will analyze the clot’s makeup and gene activity to classify the stroke’s cause, which could be due to artery narrowing, heart problems, or other reasons.
People eligible for this study are those who have recently had an acute ischemic stroke and have been treated by a procedure called endovascular thrombectomy, where doctors remove the clot from the brain’s blood vessels. If you join the study, you will receive thorough tests and the best medical care following current stroke treatment guidelines. After your initial stroke, you will be followed up in a clinic for up to two years to watch for any further strokes, bleeding, or other health events. This ongoing monitoring helps researchers understand how clot characteristics relate to future health risks.
