ClinConnect Summary
This study is testing a 5-week, community-based program designed to help prevent anxiety in urban youth of color in Paterson, New Jersey. It’s not a drug or medical device. The program is run in schools and through community engagement, with sessions led by trained facilitators who include someone from the local community to keep it culturally relevant. All participants would receive the intervention—there is no comparison group in this single-group design—and researchers will measure anxiety symptoms at baseline, after the five sessions, and about three months later using a short questionnaire called the GAD-7.
About who can join: the study plans to enroll about 50 youths aged 13 to 21 who live in Paterson and can read and speak English, and who give their consent to participate. Key exclusions are not being able to read/write English, not residing in Paterson, or not providing consent. Recruitment will involve collaboration with a local high school. At this stage, the trial is actively enrolling by invitation, with results not yet available. The study is led by Yale University.
