ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at whether a supplement called Co-enzyme Q10 can help improve bone growth in children who are having surgery to fix a gap in their upper jaw, known as an alveolar cleft. This gap is a common part of a cleft lip and palate condition, and the surgery aims to fill the space with new bone to support teeth and improve facial structure. The study wants to see if taking Co-enzyme Q10 makes the bone healing better after this repair.
The trial is for boys and girls between 10 and 14 years old who are generally healthy and have good oral hygiene. It’s not for children who have other health issues related to their cleft, previous surgeries to fix the gap, or certain problems in the mouth that might affect the surgery. If eligible, participants can expect to undergo the usual bone repair surgery and take Co-enzyme Q10 as part of their treatment to see if it helps with bone growth. The study is not yet recruiting, so families interested should keep an eye out for when it begins.
