ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether using a local anesthetic called lidocaine can help reduce pain during a procedure called a saline infusion sonogram (SIS). An SIS is a common test used in fertility evaluations to look at the uterus and fallopian tubes by gently filling the uterus with a small amount of saltwater. Some women find this test uncomfortable or painful, and this study wants to see if numbing the area with lidocaine makes the experience easier and less painful.
Women who are having an SIS with a balloon catheter at the Montefiore Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Health may be eligible to join if they take ibuprofen before the procedure and can give consent in English or Spanish. Participants will be randomly given either the numbing medicine or a placebo (a fake treatment) during the procedure, and they will be asked to share how much pain they feel at different times. The trial is not yet recruiting, but if lidocaine is shown to help, this could make the fertility testing process more comfortable and accessible for many women.
