ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying whether the amount of calcium in the heart’s arteries, measured before surgery, is linked to the chance of developing an irregular heartbeat called atrial fibrillation after a robot-assisted surgery to remove part of the esophagus (the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach). Doctors want to understand if the calcium score can help predict who might experience this heart issue after the procedure.

Patients who are 20 years or older and scheduled for this type of robotic esophagus surgery may be able to join the study, as long as they have had a special heart scan before surgery that measures calcium in their heart arteries. People who have had emergency surgery, cannot understand or sign consent forms, have memory or thinking problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a history of irregular heartbeat before surgery will not be eligible. If you join, your medical team will review your pre-surgery heart scan and monitor your heart rhythm after surgery to see if any irregular heartbeat develops. This study is not yet enrolling participants but aims to help doctors better predict and manage heart risks in patients undergoing this surgery.
