ClinConnect Summary

This is an observational study at Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University in Turkey, looking at whether habits like playing video games or doing sports are linked to how well fourth-year medical students perform a practice airway procedure using a video camera (videolaryngoscopy) on a mannequin. About 100 adults aged 18–45 who are in their anesthesia rotation and have never done a real endotracheal intubation will be invited to participate. Students with prior intubation experience or certain medical conditions or recent hand surgery will be excluded. The study involves a short training session followed by a hands-on practice on a mannequin.

During the session, researchers will measure several things: how long it takes to complete the intubation (the main measure), how well the glottic opening is seen (a visibility score), whether the student can successfully intubate the mannequin with videolaryngoscopy, and the times for viewing the glottis and for threading the tube through the vocal cords. Participants will be grouped into those who regularly play video games or do sports and those who do not, to see if these activities relate to skill. The study started enrolling in June 2025 and is expected to finish around June 2026, with results not yet available. Data can be requested from the researchers after the study is completed.
