ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at new ways to provide physical therapy (PT) for people living with hip or knee arthritis who live in rural areas, where getting to a clinic can be hard. The study compares two different programs that deliver PT through video calls at home—one where patients work one-on-one with a therapist, and another where patients join group classes but still get some private time with the therapist. Both programs aim to help people manage pain, improve daily activities, stay active, and maintain healthy habits like good sleep and diet.
To join, participants need to have hip or knee arthritis that doesn’t yet require joint replacement surgery, not be currently seeing a physical therapist, live outside Edmonton or nearby towns, speak English, and have a device like a smartphone or computer that can use Zoom video calls. The study starts with 12 weeks of usual care, then participants are randomly placed into one of the two video PT programs for another 12 weeks. This trial offers a chance for people who might struggle to access in-person therapy to get support and treatment right in their own homes.
