ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new parenting program called VIP-RACE, designed to help Latine parents talk with their 10-to-14-year-old children about race and culture in a positive way. The program aims to boost parents’ confidence and skills in having these important conversations, while reducing any stress they might feel about them. By supporting parents in this way, the study hopes to help young Latine teens develop a stronger sense of their racial and ethnic identity, which can improve their mental health and behavior.
Families eligible for this study must include a Latine parent and their child between the ages of 10 and 14. Both need to speak English or Spanish and be willing to participate together in the program. Parents and children will also need to agree to be video or audio recorded during parent-child activities. The study will first work with a small group of families to refine the program and then test how well it works. Participants can expect to engage in conversations and activities focused on cultural strengths, with support from the program to make these talks easier and more meaningful. This study is currently recruiting families who fit these criteria and are interested in helping improve this important parenting support.
