ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether special practice using a simulator can help anesthesia residents (doctors training to give anesthesia) get better at placing epidurals. An epidural is a common and effective way to manage pain during labor, but it can be hard to perform correctly, especially for doctors still learning. The trial will compare two groups of residents: one group will get extra training using a simulator and an anatomy lesson before working with patients, while the other group will learn through the usual hands-on experience in the labor ward.
To take part, residents need to be in their 4th or 5th year of anesthesia training and have little experience with epidurals (fewer than 20 placements) or simulator use. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups and their success in placing epidurals without help, the time it takes, any problems, and their satisfaction with the training will be measured. This study will take place at a hospital in Padova, Italy, and plans to enroll 86 residents over three years. If you are an anesthesia resident interested in improving your skills safely before working with patients, this trial might be a good fit.
